Using Speech Link: supporting children with unclear speech in the primary classroom

Outline

This course is open to school staff, SENCOs/designated teachers/designated teaching assistants, working in Primary
schools who have not yet accessed Speech Link training.

Please note that this course is now run over 2 full days. Staff are expected to attend both sessions.

The course is to introduce Speech Link, a multimedia package which empowers and supports staff in mainstream primary schools to manage developmental speech difficulties in children aged between 4 and 8 years. It complements the work of
the Language Link programme.

It aims to help you to work alongside the Specialist Speech and Language Team and the Speech and Language Therapy Service by offering ideas and strategies for support with implementing therapy programmes. It will help you prioritise
those children who need a referral to Speech and Language Therapy. It complements the work of the Language Link programme.

The course also offers some further training in supporting children with unclear speech in the classroom.

This event links to the School Effectiveness Framework: Inclusion with a particular focus on the development of speech, language and communication skills in order for pupils to access learning across the curriculum.
