In its Corporate Health Standard, Public Health Wales indicates that one in six employees will have a mental health problem at any one time. Cardiff Council is committed to promoting and maintaining the mental health and wellbeing of all employees through workplace practices, and encourage employees to take responsibility for their own mental health and wellbeing. This is a bilingual message // Mae hon yn neges ddwyieithog. Llongyfarchiadau i’n cydweithwyr yn y tîm Mynediad a Chynllunio Trefniadaeth Ysgolion. Maen nhw wedi ennill y brif wobr yng Ngwobrau Adeiladau Addysg Cymru 2019 yn y categori ‘Cleient y Flwyddyn’ am ddatblygu Ysgol Uwchradd Gymunedol Gorllewin Caerdydd. Adeiladwyd yr ysgol uwchradd £36 miliwn fel rhan o Raglen Ysgolion ac Addysg y 21ain Ganrif Band A. Dywedodd Willmott Dixon a oedd yn gyfrifol am yr enwebiad: “Cyngor Caerdydd sydd y tu ôl i adfywio cymunedol – nid yn unig y mae’n “archebu” adeilad ysgol, mae hefyd yn rhan o’r broses. "Mae’n gallu dilysu’r canlyniadau terfynol oherwydd ei ymrwymiad; mae’n llywio ac yn cydweithredu i’w greu.” Da iawn bawb! Cafodd ysgolion cynradd newydd sbon Hamadryad, Howardian a Glan Morfa eu henwebu am wobrau. ____________________________________________________________________________ Congratulations to our colleagues in the Schools Organisation Access and Planning team. They scooped top prize at the Education Buildings Wales 2019 Awards in the category ‘Client of the Year’ for the development of Cardiff West Community High School. The £36million high school was built as part of the Band A 21st Century Schools and Education Programme. Willmott Dixon who were responsible for the nomination said: “Cardiff Council are the driving force behind the act of community regeneration – they don’t just “place an order” for a school building, they invest themselves into the process. “They are able to validate the end results because of their commitment; they actively steer and collaborate to create it.” Well done to everyone involved! Brand new primary schools Hamadryad, Howardian and Glan Morfa were also nominated for awards.

Gyda dros 100 yn cymryd rhan y llynedd, mae “'Cerdded Milltir yn Ei Sgidiau yn llwybr milltir o hyd sydd yn dechrau yng Nghastell Caerdydd, yna o gwmpas Canol y Ddinas, gan orffen yn ôl yn y castell. Yn broject partneriaeth rhwng Cyngor Caerdydd, Cymdeithas Dai Cadwyn a Chyngor Bro Morgannwg, mae’r digwyddiad wedi tyfu o 14 dyn yn cerdded yn 2014 ac am y tro cyntaf y llynedd cymerodd disgyblion o Ysgol Uwchradd Llanisien, Ysgol Uwchradd Teilo Sant a Gwasanaeth Ieuenctid Caerdydd ray n y digwyddiad. A partnership project between Cardiff Council, Cadwyn Housing Association and the Vale of Glamorgan Council, the event has grown from just 14 men in 2014 and for the first time last year, young people from Llanishen High School, St Teilo’s High School and the Cardiff Youth Service participated in the event. Taking place again this year, on 20th September 2019, schools are invited to take part in the one-mile walk for free, to help raise awareness of the issue of domestic abuse and the need to tackle all cases of domestic abuse across the country. In line with the theme, walkers are also invited to wear women's shoes, from high heels to trainers to flip-flops. • Sicrhau bod gweithdrefnau diogelu yn cynnwys darpariaeth ar gyfer a nodi a mynd i’r afael â risgiau sy’n ymwneud â radicaliaeth a therfysgaeth dreisgar a, bod yr Uwch Swyddog Dynodedig wedi datblygu sianeli cyfathrebu gydag asiantaethau allanol priodol, yn enwedig yr heddlu. • Deall bod rhaid i ysgolion allu ‘dangos dealltwriaeth a chamau’ sy’n cyfrannu at ddatblygu cymunedau cydlynol, gwydn yn eu rôl fel ‘gwarcheidwaid cyfrifol’. Bod angen iddynt gael trefniadau ar waith ar gyfer sicrhau diogelwch a llesiant pob dysgwr, gan gynnwys nodi’r dysgwyr hynny’n sy’n agored i niwed, sydd angen cymorth penodol ac/neu sydd mewn perygl o niwed. • Deall yr angen i ddiogelu dysgwyr rhag dylanwadau allanol, a allai fod ar ffurf mynediad i’r rhyngrwyd. • Ensure that safeguarding procedures include provision for identifying and addressing risks relating to radicalisation and violent extremism and, that the DSP has developed channels of communication with appropriate external agencies, especially the police service. • Understand that schools must be able to ‘demonstrate understanding and actions’ that contribute to the development of cohesive, resilient communities in their role as ‘responsible guardians’. They need to have arrangements in place for ensuring the safety and well-being of all learners, including the identification of vulnerable learners, who are in particular need of support and/or at risk of harm. • Understand the need to safeguard learners from external influences, which could be in the form of inappropriate access to the internet.

ACE Ambassador Professional Learning Day 1
The day would include a three-hour training session on ACE awareness provided by the ACE hub. This will be followed by a training session on the readiness tool which will help schools to reflect on their current provision and developing trauma informed environment in their school. In the afternoon the Resilience Film will be shown, if you have already seen this film delegates can then return to school.

This half day course for Teaching Assistants explores the ways in which children develop spelling skills and considers how children with spelling difficulties can be supported to make progress. Bydd y cwrs hwn yn sicrhau bod gan lywodraethwyr: • Yr wybodaeth angenrheidiol i ddechrau cyflawni eu rôl yn effeithiol fel llywodraethwr er mwyn cefnogi’r ysgol i godi safonau; • Yn ymwybodol o faterion addysg cenedlaethol a lleol a’u heffaith ar gyrff llywodraethu • Chydnabod pwysigrwydd hyfforddiant a’r angen i ddatblygu eu sgiliau a manteisio ar gyfleoedd hyfforddi eraill sydd ar gael iddynt. • Rydym yn argymell mynychu’r cwrs hwn cyn yr hyfforddiant Deall Data. This is a mandatory course for new governors and will ensure that they: • Have the required knowledge and understanding to begin to fulfil their role effectively as a governor to support their school in raising standards; • Are aware of national and local educational issues and their impact on governing bodies • Recognise the importance of training and the need to develop their skills and take advantage of other training opportunities available to them. • We recommend attending this course before the Understanding Data training.
